Blog Tour: Ponderins Blogger

Author Ponderins by Michele Ward

My poetry began in the late 1980s. Some of my ideas came from my life as a nun for 7 years at the Monastery of St. Gertrude and my struggles of entering and leaving. Many of my ideas are born from books, from other people, from depression, from delight, from nature and from every opportunism I can think of.

“Every poem is the autobiography of the emotion.” Stanley Plumly

"Michele uses her talent of words to share her own inner-self through the words of her poems. Some will be heartbreaking truth of the trials she has gone through and others will display her love for life and how she sees the world through her own eyes and with her kind and most caring heart. Michele also touches her darker side in words about her struggle with depression.

I ask as you travel down the road of her story written in between these lines of poems that you will grow to love her work and her." Poet Jeniann Bowers.

“I AM”
By Michele Ward

I AM . . . Woven Wind, clearing troubled, anxious minds. Let me fluff the tresses of your straw-strewn hair.

I AM . . . Sky, filled with hopes and dreams. Dream of my possibilities for you.

I AM . . . Earth, nurturing seeds and expressing life. Hold me in you hands and smell me. Squish me soft between your naked toes.

I AM . . . Sea, with many-voiced waves whispering peace and squalling surrender. Roll up your jeans and frolic in my beauty.

I AM . . . fire, guided light and energy for your journey here. Diffuse me only if you dare.

I AM . . . Smoke, warning you of eminent danger. Watch for me.

I AM . . . Creek, on a refreshing and quenching quest, accompanying you on the curls and coils of travel.

I AM . . . Garden, to behold and nourish. I need weeding, watering, watching, sunrays bright, with dazzling light and song.

I AM. . . Grass, to cool and soften your senses. Go ahead; take off your shoes, walk on me. Let me refresh your feet for frolic.

I AM . . Flower. They call me blossom. Enjoy my short-lived beauty, frail and fragrant. Caress me quiet and elegant.

I AM . . . Rain, to soothe and shower you with trickling memories. Come outside and keep me company in the marvel of my downpour. Play in me.

I AM . . . Thunder, to release you from your daily doldrums.

I AM . . . Lightening. They call me Neon Sky. Thunder speaks of me. Look for me when thunder shakes your world. I’ll be there to entertain you and spark adventure in you languid life.

I AM . . . Ocean Tide, the ebb and flow of life: In-flowing good, out-flowing bad. But you never know what the tide is going to bring in. Hold my hand so we both won’t be swept away with the out-going bad. It is not always good to be alone.

I AM . . .Sunbeam. I love to make your body warm all over. But I can be dangerous. Don’t get too close for too long or I’ll burn you. Allow me space to glow when and where you can. Don’t shut me out all day. A little dose of me can be good for your moody moments.

I AM . . .Air, the substance you breathe. Do not take me for granted. Help me to stay pure for you. Inhale me; take me in.

I AM . . . Tree. Birds rush to settle safe in my branched arms. Come dawdle in my shade. Climb up and behold the freedom I feel up here to stir the sky senseless.

I AM . . . Bird. I dance on wind-tides to the tempo of my wings, sprinkling nymph and gnome notes over fields of dreams dreamt.

I AM . . . Music. Dance with me please! I love to dance to the rhythm of nature. Listen . Do you hear it? Or is the silence too loud for you?

I AM . . . Silence. I bring you calm and intuition. To you I promise magic. Take time to soak in my essence. Let me soften you - within and without.

I AM . . . GOD, your friend. …………….come closer.

Top Ten List

I made my Top Ten List about Top Ten Important Information I would like to share.

10. Warning Sign that your teen is depressed: Loss of interest in sports or activities they used to enjoy, withdrawal from friends and family. Spending excess time alone.

9. Favorite Quote: “As daughters of God, you cannot imagine the divine potential within each of you, Being a daughter of God means that if you seek it, you can find your true identity. You will know who you are. This will make you free—not free from restraints, but free from doubts, anxieties, or peer pressure. You will not need to worry, “Do I look all right?” “Do I sound OK?” “What do people think of me?” A conviction that you are a daughter of God gives you a feeling of comfort in your self-worth. It means that you can find strength in the balm of Christ. It will help you meet the heartaches and challenges with faith and serenity.” - James. E. Faust

8. Eating Disorder Myth: Eating disorders are about food and weight. Obviously this is how eating disorders present themselves, but they are actually about deeply rooted issues such as: need for control, coping mechanism for dealing with a traumatic experience, low self-esteem, perfectionism, depression etc. Usually eating disorders are caused by a mixture of several of these issues which is why getting professional treatment is so important.

7. Resources for help:
http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/

http://centerforchange.com/

Also, most schools and colleges provide counseling and free services and support groups for their students.

6. Favorite Quote: “Do you suppose it matters to our Heavenly Father whether your makeup, clothes, hair, and nails are perfect? Do you think your value to Him changes based on how many followers you have on Instagram or Pinterest? Do you think He wants you to worry or get depressed if some un-friend or un-follow you on Facebook or Twitter? Do you think outward attractiveness, your dress size, or popularity make the slightest difference in your worth to the One who created the universe? He loves you not only for who you are this very day, but also for the person of glory and light you have the potential and the desire to become.” – President Uchtdorf

5. Warning signs of an eating disorder:

* Changes in eating habits, such as avoiding eating with the family.

* Defensiveness when asked about their eating behavior or weight loss.

* A tendency toward being a perfectionist or not being satisfied with themselves.

* Panic when they can’t exercise as planned.

* Comments about how they feel fat or are not good enough.

* An obsession with food, excessive exercising, calorie-counting, and reading about dieting.

4. Self-worth tip: Words are powerful. Create four to five descriptive words you want to be and say this statement several times a day: “I am ___(fill in with your adjectives)___”

Example: “I am energetic, kind, beautiful, smart, and thoughtful.”
3. Favorite Quote: “Looking in the mirror, do you sometimes wish for a different reflection? Some of you may feel that you are not as attractive and beautiful and glamorous as you would like to be. Rise above any such feelings, cultivate the light you have within you, and it will shine through as a radiant expression that will be seen by others” -- Gordon B. Hinckley

 2. This is my number one tip for mothers: Never put yourself down in front of your daughter. Daughters not only model your behavior, but their own self-talk leads her to believe that if Mom—who is perfect in her eyes—thinks she’s fat, ugly, and not good enough, how much worse must she be? Or she might look physically similar to you and when you put down a trait she also possesses, she will feel you are saying it about her as well.

Never let her hear you speak negatively about yourself, but go a step further. Stop and change any of your own damaging inner dialogue.

1. I always end my presentations with asking the audience to take a pledge with me. It is to stop negative self-talk. It is to end what is sometimes called “fat talk.” Fat Talk describes all of the statements made in everyday conversation that reinforce the thin ideal and contribute to women’s dissatisfaction with their bodies.
Examples of fat talk include: “I’m so fat,” “Do I look fat in this?” “I need to lose 10 pounds” “I hate my thighs” and “She’s too fat to be wearing that swimsuit.”
Statements that are considered fat talk don’t necessarily have to be negative; they can seem positive yet reinforce the need to be thin. “You look great! Have you lost weight?”

So I challenge you today to take the pledge to stop the “fat talk” and all other negative inner dialog. You can make a difference!!

Spotlight

The Disease

I was the disease that you never wanted,
I played games with your heart,
Whenever you looked into my eyes,
You couldn't handle the rush of emotions,
The feeling of falling,
Not knowing if I would be there to pick you up,
You played the role of gun and bullet,
Out to kill the disease that was aching at your heart,
Knowing that the disease is what you wanted,
But the pride is the bigger enemy to love,
Love would mean letting go,
Twirling out of control,
The shivers and shakes,
The withdrawals,
The heart breaking when you weren't with me,
Was all but the disease eating at you,
And you turned your back,
Walked away and killed the disease
With the bullet with words of lies,
Because I was the disease you wanted all a long.

“inkstand”

as i sit here today
trying to figure out
how to say
that my mind is about

to call it quits and
just walk away,
let the inkstand
rust and collapse in dismay

keep these words
‘let the inkstand rust and collapse in dismay….”
           of words never written

take my chances to ride away
chasing a this crazy dream
it seems as if am about to betray
myself in my own crazy dream

so as i sit here today
trying to figure out
how to say
that my mind is about

to call it quits
just walk away
let the inkstand
rust and collapse in dismay

keep these words
“let the inkstand  rust and collapse in dismay….”
           of words never written

the dreamer in me
in which my hands only wrote
just let it be
within this note

keep these words
“let the inkstand rust and collapse in dismay….”
           of words never written

Mountain Spring

So beautiful and gentle
Tinkling down
So amble
Moving forth, as to drown

My wailing cry
Of a broken heart
Please do not deny
As we depart

From this earth
And to reign in heaven
That our love was worth
And we were chosen

To love not deceit
Angel sings of
Music so sweet
As doves

Symbol our love
So beautiful and gentle
Tinkling down
So amble…

Moving forth, as to drown
Their cries, of bells to ring
To hear such sound
At the mountain spring

Dreams vs. Reality

I had it all at one time…
My moment in life
Where I thought everything
Was perfect and nothing
Could take that away,

It was only a year ago
When you were in my life
Sitting around chatting
Listening to your stories
Hearing your laughter
Seeing your smile,

But all I have now
Is memories and regrets

If I knew that telling you
How I felt would have
Cost me everything
I would have not told
You, but the feelings
Were so strong,

When we weren’t together
The emptiness
Felt like a frozen waterfall,
Just frozen in time
With love yearning
To show you

Then when we were together
The feelings were so true
As if God had put you there
To save me from falling off
That cliff that I was teetering on

Where dreams come true
Or they fell apart
Instead of waiting for you
I jumped off and told you
That I loved you

And now here I am
A year later still waiting
And only loving you
In my dreams at night.

Clouds of Gray

I awake with clouds of gray
Hanging over this head of mine
Skies are gloomy, sad looking
Upon my face

It feels if there is no way
To make the sun shine
Or to hear the birds sing
Searching for God’s grace

At the end of the day
Hoping God will give me a sign
Just a small ping
If it is only to embrace

When I bow my head to pray
Knowing His love is divine
He will take this aching
Heart and replace it

I can say
That today will be fine
And the birds will sing
The clouds will erase

And the sun will shine
Upon my face
